Our Work
I'm a web designer who works where interface design and front-end engineering meet. Abi River Applications is where I design and build creative software, from playful apps to polished sites, with an eye for detail and a respect for how things should actually work.
Most of my projects start with a creative idea and end as something clean, fast and genuinely usable. No clutter, no noise. Just considered design carried all the way through to the code.
Working predominantly with progressive web apps, installable, offline-ready products that feel at home on a phone, tablet or desktop without ever touching an app store. A lot of that work leans into health and education, where creative, intuitive design can quietly do real good, lowering the friction between a person and what they're trying to learn or look after.

Underneath, it's a personal AAC communication app. Picture and phrase tiles, quick phrases and built-up sentences give a clear voice to everyday needs, feelings and conversations.

A local-first progressive web app. It installs from the browser to phone, tablet or desktop, runs entirely on-device with no account and no server behind it, and keeps working offline. Laid out for one-handed use on site, and just as comfortable full-size at a desk.
The app itself is time, expenses and invoicing for solo professionals. Run a timer against a project, log what you spend, turn the hours into an invoice and watch the insights build up as you go.

A cross-device progressive web app, installable from the browser and playable on any screen, with a board and controls tuned for mobile in the hand and full-size on desktop.
The build wraps a turn-based math combat game: solve equations to fire your cannons and sink the enemy fleet, with free play, timed trials and times-tables drills.

A professional single-page brochure website. One anchor-linked page, laid out desktop-first for reading and reference, and reflowing cleanly to mobile. Built as a PWA, so it loads fast and can be saved to any device.
A researcher's home on the web: profile, expertise, publications, media and contact, all in one calm, quick-scanning page for a quantitative public health researcher.

● Beautiful Concrete · CLIENT BUILD
A mobile-first progressive web app built for use at the bench. It installs to the home screen on a phone or tablet, and works just as well full-width in a desktop browser.
The tool itself is a recipe calculator for handcrafted eco-concrete kits: set the dry mix, pick an aggregate and oxide colour, and it works out the exact water, pigment and total weights, with safe limits and step-by-step mixing.
